RE: How to vent exterior storage cab for inverter install?

I did a similar install, and cut a vent hole to mount a muffin fan, covered with screen. It works well so far.

RE: Honda generator Rust in Carb

I had a similar problem with a Honda that had a little pot-metal gas settling bowl housing at the gas shut-off valve. It would let junk get into the carb. I replaced it with a universal type gas settling bowl from NAPA and cleaned the fuel system. No problems since then.

RE: Radiator DIY.. any thoughts

I would suggest that if you have any significant mileage on the engine, to replace the timing chain and gears while you have access to the front of the engine. Did that on mine 2 years ago, also due to a radiator failure. The cost is minimal if you do the labor yourself. If you're replacing the water pump, you're almost there.

RE: Inverter wiring question

I have escentially the same setup as what you propose, but with a 3000 watt Xantrex, run with 4-0 cable. I am happy with this setup. The only downsides are the obvious costs and weight of the additional batteries with their heavy cable runs.

RE: Built-in generator question

Just a thought along that line. I use a conventional Onan built-in generator and a Xantrex inverter/charger, which offers the generator auto-start as an option. It may be overkill, but what is achieved is basically similar to a built-in inverter-generator. And with 2 alternators kicking out up to 280 amps, i don't need the generator when the engine is running.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be my 14 year old EPDM roof. Although the roof appeared to be intact, sealing it cured my wet basement.

RE: While showering, the BEST "Soap-Up Shutoff" to conserve water?

On my water heater, i was able to get an adjustable thermostat to replace the original too H-O-double-T fixed thermostat. After some trial and error, straight hot water in the shower is comfortable for DW, and not scalding for me anymore.

RE: Alternator amp requirements

offigo, i would offer you a couple of suggestiions. First, don't buy an alternator from an auto parts store. Find a real alternator rebuilder to see what he can build for you that will hold up under a long term load, and fit under your hood. A trucking company mechanic will likely know who the good rebuilders are. Next, the wiring between the alternator and the batteries is as important as the alternator capacity is to get the amps into the batteries. The battery isolator is the next important piece of the puzzle. (I built my own) Maybe too much to address here, but again, a good alternator rebuilder should be able to answer each of these questions for your application. It will likely not be a cheap fix, but done right you can have a long lasting charging system that works well.

RE: Water pump switch in toilet

To the OP, vermilye got the answer to your question right with his wiring diagram. Here i go with my overkill again, but i put 4 pump switches in my motorhome. It works perfectly, with no relay or additional components to draw current or give trouble. If you need any help understanding the wiring, send me a private message.

RE: Onan Automatic Transfer Switch

IndianaJones, if you want an inexpensive, fairly easy solution, i did the same thing you want to do. This assumes you have a 120 Volt generator, and a 30 amp shore power cord. I used a 4PDT (4 pole, double throw) switch, with center off. I tied 2 poles together for the hot, and the other 2 together to switch the neutral. (The neutral must also be switched to run shore power from a GFI circuit.) The switch is part #STS-71 from allelectronics.com for $3.85. Shipping is $7 regardless of the size of the order. Even though this switch has screw terminals, i soldered lengths of #10 THHN to each terminal. Not for ampacity, but for heat disiptation. Overkill? Yes, but that's what i did. Each terminal is rated 15A, 125V. Two terminals together gives you your 30 amp capacity. I do not switch under load, but i should be able to.

I had the same problem on an 89 460. The oxygen sensor is what cured the problem for me.
Did your check engine light come on?
No, but i'm not sure my check engine light works anyway.

RE: full sine wave inverter

does pure sine wave equate to full sine wave???
thanks
bumpy
Bumpy, I'm not sure that 'full sine wave' is what the manufacturer really meant. If you are familiar with normal 120 volt AC (alternating current), and look at it on an scilloscope, it goes back and forth from negative voltage to positive voltage 60 times per second (60 cycles). This is FULL sine wave (or whatever wave form it is) as opposed to HALF sine wave, which is what you would get if you added a diode into the circuit, so that you got only either the positive or negative voltage. For all practical purposes, this does not exist in modern real-world applications. I hope that answers your question, but it may have just made it that much more confusing.
I suspect that the important part is the SINE wave. But i would suggest contacting the manufacturer about the possibility of a modified sine wave, and ask about startup current draw before you make an investment in any inverter for that purpose.
